Lord Shani is regarded not as a punisher but as the deity of karma and justice, rewarding honesty and holding people accountable for their actions — this puja is an appeal for his patience, mercy and protection while his karmic cycle runs its course.
🕌 About Temple
Shani Shingnapur is one of the most distinctive pilgrimage sites in India. Here, Lord Shani is worshipped not within an enclosed sanctum but as a self-manifested (swayambhu) black stone standing in the open air, flanked by a trishul, a Nandi and a Hanuman idol. Legend holds that the stone was found floating in a river after a flood; when a shepherd struck it, it began to bleed, and Shani appeared in his dream instructing that the idol never be roofed, as the sky itself was his shelter. Out of this same faith grew Shingnapur's famous tradition of homes, shops and even the post office having no doors or locks — the village trusts entirely in Shani's protection, a living testament to the temple's power.
