About Pitra Shanti Tarpan Mahapuja

Gaya is regarded in Hindu tradition as the definitive site for liberating ancestral souls, sparing families from the need for further annual Shraddha once performed here. This Mahapuja is intended for those seeking relief from Pitra Dosh, or facing generational karmic patterns believed to trace back to unresolved ancestral debts — conditions often associated with persistent life hurdles such as delays in marriage, difficulty conceiving, or recurring financial struggle despite consistent effort.

About Temple

Temple

Shri Vishnupad Temple stands on the banks of the Falgu River in Gaya and enshrines a footprint of Lord Vishnu, said to mark the spot where he pressed the demon Gayasura into the earth to steady him for a great yagna. In gratitude, Gayasura was granted the boon that anyone performing Shraddha rites here on behalf of their ancestors would be freed from the need for further annual rites elsewhere. The present structure was built in 1787 by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, though the site's religious significance stretches back through the Garuda Purana and Brahma Purana. Tarpan, Pind Daan and Brahmin Bhojan performed here, especially alongside the nearby Falgu River and the ancient Akshay Vat tree, are considered the most complete form of ancestral rite in Hindu tradition. .
